FIRST ONE. okay. Soo, my favorite part of the Washington D.C. trip was probably the NEWSUEM. The Newsuem is a new museum all about the press, from the very beginning, where just fliers were posted, to today. I really enjoyed this museum because it held so much history of the word that was documented by the press from time to time. It was also very interactive and i really liked the 4-D movie... besides the rat part. Anyways, the Newsuem was by far, my favorite.

second, So i really enjoyed Mt. Vernon. It was cool because we were traveling through the house of one of the most famous americans. His whole plantation was nice and the colonial feel to it. The 4-D movie with the snow was really cool and i had fun there.

third, Every thing was really cool there and the best one i thought was the FDR one because it showed a lot about him with all of his quotes and one thing that was nice is the statue of him and his dog. Also i liked the Newsuem and also going there a second time was really cool because some of the things i did not see the first time and FLO JO was a good tour guide.

My favorite part of our trip to DC was going to the Newseum. The 4-D interactive movie was a great way to start the tour of the museum, and it really gave me a sense of how the press and newspapers played a role in history. I additionally enjoyed going to the exhibit that documented the major events in the nation through newspaper articles, starting from the 1700’s. It was amazing how there were newspaper articles for such important points in time, such as when the Declaration of Independence was written and when Martin Luther King Jr. gave his “I Have a Dream”speech. Furthermore, the 9/11 exhibit really interested me. Seeing the antenna from the World Trade Center, after it got hit by the plane, was fascinating. The wall with all the different newspaper articles from around the world about 9/11, as well as the timeline of what happened on 9/11, also helped me understand how much impact the events of that day had on the world. The Newseum was the most enjoyable part of the trip through its interesting, yet informative, exhibits.

I really enjoyed the whole D.C. trip. I specifically really like the Newseum. I have been to D.C. before, but the Newseum was under construction when I went. The Newseum is all about news and the media, and it highlights the 1st amendment to the Bill Of Rights--Freedom of press, speech, etc. I thought the 4-D was really cool because water would spray at you at certain points and your chair would move in sync with the movie. I really liked the exhibit on all of the famous newspapers from the past. I also thought that the 9/11 exhibit was really moving. It was also fun to make your own news cast! Again, the whole trip was fun, but the Newseum really stood out since it was interactive, but also interesting.

My favorite part of the trip was the Lincoln Memorial. I’ve been to DC before and it was my favorite part then too. I like how he’s looking out over what seems to be all of DC. I think it shows how he tried to protect America, always looking out for it. I also liked the quotes around him in the memorial. I think it’s like a summary of what he did as president. -Kira

(3) Out of all the museums and monuments we visited over the DC trip the Newsuem was probably my favorite. I thought the 4D movie was really cool, but I also really liked the exhibits on the Pulitzer prize winning photots and 9/11. In the 9/11 section it was really cool to see an actual part of one of the twin towers and see all of the newspapers that had come out all over the world. I thought it was also really cool that they had an entire dedication to the only photographer who died that day there as well. I wish we had more time to explore there! -Mollie

The D.C. trip was so much fun! My favorite part of the trip was the Newseum. It had a ton of interesting exhibits. The building was very modern, probably to represent communication and technology. I enjoyed the 4-D movie, creating my own newscast, and the Berlin Wall exhibit. There was also a whole wall dedicated to newspaper covers from all over the world on the day of 9/11. It made me realize how greatly the disaster impacted the whole world. During the trip, I thought Mt. Vernon connected with our Social Studies class because we have been learning so much about our founding fathers. The 4-D movie at Mt. Vernon taught me a lot about the battles George Washington took part in. In the future, I would definitely love to go back to D.C.!

The DC trip was amazing and majorly fun! My favorite part was the nighttime tour of the monuments. I had never been to DC before, so everything was really cool and new to me. It was fun to see everything that is in pictures everywhere. The Vietnam memorial was really sad. I didn't realize how many people died in that war, and it was so sad to see how many people did. It made me realize how important that war was and how it impacted so many lives. It was black, which made it really serious, and the V shape was artistic, but simple. The 3 statues were neat because they represented the people that fought in the war. The lincoln memorial was also cool. It was really big, and it represented what an important political figure he was. It was also cool how he was looking over everything. We are just learning about him in Social Studies, too. The Korean war figures were awesome , as they represented fighters in the war. The 2nd world war memorial was really pretty because it was lit up, and it had a statue for every state. I never knew about this memorial and it was really cool seeing it. all in all i think the night time tour of the memorials was really fun because i got to see all the important symbols of the US and many events that happened over history. Also it was fun because it was at night, so everything was pretty and lit up, different than during the day. I liked the memorials because they were interesting and cool. -Olivia

I really enjoyed the trip to D.C.! I had so much fun. My favorite part was the night time tour of the monuments, although I loved a lot of the differant activities. This was my first time going to Washington D.C. so it was really cool to see. I think the night time tour made it even more pretty. We got to see a wide range of differant monuments and memorials that all gave differant feelings, and it was amazing. My favorite of all of them was the Lincoln Memorial. It just stood out to me as really interesting, and I think that it was one of the more famous ones that I had heard about a lot so it was all the more cool to actually be able to see it.

The DC trip was extremely fun and amazing. My favorite part of the trip, was visitng all the monuments and memorials during the night. It was great having a tour guide for these areas because I learned a lot of history related to these subjects. The Vietnam Memorial was very interesting, but saddening at the same time. Seeing the amount of names written on the panels, people searching for family members, or people laying down items at the base of a panel, was really touching. It made me realise what these soldiers, their family, and their friends sacrificed for our country. It had a humbling effect on me.

3) I thought the whole trip was extremely fun becaue we had a really nice tourguide, Flo, who made eah part interesting even if you didn't like it. My favorite part of the trip was probably the Newseum. I liked this because it was very informative, but presented in a different way than most museums. It's a museum that shows all about the media and news. I liked the part where they showed all of the newspapers from around the world from 9/11. It was really cool to see the satalite from the towers, and the timeline. It was very sad though. Although I liked everything this was my most favorite.

My favorite part of the Washington D.C. trip was going to the Air and Space Museum. I enjoyed this because I liked having the break from the historical part, and being able to go with whoever you wanted, instead of your groups or bus, which some people might not have liked as much.
All the other landmarks/museums were historical and either about a specific person, or a specific group of persons, and I liked the Air and Space museum because it was different from all of this, and instead was on a whole different topic altogether.

My favorite part of the D.C. trip was the nighttime tour of all the memorials. Having never seen the memorials before, I was amazed by all of them, especially the Lincoln Memorial, as I thought it was ten times smaller than it actually was. The Vietnam Memorial and World War 2 Memorial were also very cool. Touring the memorials at night was also great because in my opinion, they looked a lot cooler in the dark with the lights on them than they probably would look in the day. The whole trip was amazing, but this is what I will probably remember the most.

i loved the NEWSESEUM. I thought all the artifacts they had were really interesting. Also I liked the 4-D movie. It was a relevant way to learn about the history of journalisim and i had never been in a 4-D movie. I enjoyed the entire trip!

My favorite part during the Washington DC trip was going to the Newseum. Especially the 9/11 exhibit. It was really interesting to learn about because I was actually alive when it happened. I could connect with it in a way. We watched a documentary on the explosion. The documentary interviewed about 5 reporters capturing the explosion, and they all told their story. All of their stories were very personal and sad, and I couldn't beleive how many people died that day. All of the families who lost theier dad or their mom or their spouses. It was amazing. And at the very end they had a gathering of all the people who lost someone or who is still looking for someone. It was really sad to see people crying and to know that they will never see their loved ones again.

My favorite part of the trip was the night tour of the memorials. I like how at night, the memorials were lit up and this gave me a different view than what the other memorials looked like in the daytime. My favorite memorial was the World War 2 memorial because the lit up fountains looked really pretty against the dark sky. It also had a statue for every state there. I also liked Mount Vernon and the 4d movie because it was about the Revolutionary War which we studied in social studies earlier in the year. I thought the special effects were really cool. I especially liked the snow coming down on us. The whole trip was really fun.

I really liked the Newseum the best. I liked the room with the Twin Towers comminucations antene and the headlines on the wall behind it the most.

I found the newseum really interesting. It was a museum dedicated to the news. I loved how there were new paper head lines from way way back. I was able to see the headlines from when MLK was shot, 9/11, the Berlin Wall was taken down, Pearl Harbor, and tons of others. There was also an exhibit just for 9/11. This had the actual antenna that was on top of the World Trade Center. The exhibit also had a wall covered in the all the front pages of the newspapers that talked about the occurrence. I love being able to see how each area portrayed 9/11, there were even ones from other countries.

The DC trip was really fun. My Favorite part was the Holocaust museum. Even though it was extremely sad and grusem it was still the most memorable. I really liked how each section showed how the hate against jews increased and how they were treated became worse and worse. The First Floor was about how the Nazi's came to power and how the jews started getting limited by Laws. Also it talked about Gypsies, and mentally&Physically disabled people. The next Floor was about the Ghettos, and Concentration Camps. On this floor there was an actual train car from Polandthat was used to transport people to ghettos and concentration camps. There was also a room full of shoes. These shoes had been collected from the those who had been gased. Lastly on this floor there was a picture of a huge mound of hair. This hair had been shaven from the heads of those at the concentration camps. This floor was the saddest. The last floor was about how they were liberated by many different countries. This museum/memorial helped me get a greater appriceation for those who survived the holocaust. Also I made me realize how bad this event really was.
On a happier note I also liked the Night time tour of the Memorials. My two favorite memorials were the Korean War and World War II memorials. The Korean War Memorial was really cool because the way it had 19 soldiers in formation and then there was a black wall with these pictures engraved in it. The World War II Memorial showed how our Nation was so united at that particular time.
Overall the trip was super fun and the trip should defintly be taken in future years. Even though our flight was delayed the down time at the airport was really fun... especially the moving side walks. - Carly

My favorite part of the D.C. trip was the Newseum. They had everything there was to know about news! Also, they showed how the carrying out of news changed over time, like from newspapers to televisions. The 4-D movie was really cool, but my favorite was "Become a TV Reporter". Here we got to stand in front of a green scene, which displayed a background of our choice, and read off a TV prompter to create a mock news casting. This was a great experience and it was funny watching the replay of the news report we just made. I hope that I can come back to the Newseum in future and have more time to explore around there.

My favorite part of the trip was going to the monuments at night. In particular i liked the world war two memorial. The fountian and the lights looked especially pretty at night. Also the lights at the monuments made for great picture taking. I also thought the vietnam memorial was really touching. I had a general idea of the toll it had on all the people and families it impacted because i had gone before, but to see it agian, the number was overwhelming. The amount of people and families that had to suffer losses was unbelievable and made me sad to see and think about. Overall i think the nighttime trip was the best because you got to see it from a different way than during the day. I got a great apreciation for all the memorials and thought the trip was very special. -Alexandra

I liked many things about the trip. The thing that i enjoyed most about the trip was the night time tour of the monuments. The reason why i liked it is becuase we got to see the vietnam, korean, world war 2 and the washington monument lit up. Before we went there i didnt know how so many people died in vietnam and it was really sad. I also like seeing all the different monuments lit up when walking around. Overall i liked many things about the trip. - Melissa w

the washington DC trip was alot of fun, i learned so much. the Holicost museum had alot of information. the year before we learned alot about the holicost so the museum i felt was important that we went. i also liked the capital building it had alot of different models of Washington DC in different time periods. the 9/11 section in the newseum i found really important because it happened during our time period. i could not believe how many newspapers were in that section on 9/11. over all the Washington trip was a great learning experiance.

The Washington DC trip was one of my most memorable parts of Middle School. For the trip itself, my favorite parts were the Newseum, Monuments, and the Dinner Dance. Living with a group of so many people for three days was also very interesting. I have gone to school with most of these kids for many years, but had never lived with them. So in those three days alone, you learn many things about people that you did not learn in all of Middle School. I also enjoyed Ford’s Theater, where President Lincoln was shot. It was really cool to be where the audience was when Lincoln was assassinated. I can’t wait to go back to DC!-Julia P.

3) My favorite part of the trip was probably the FDR memorial. I went to DC a couple of years ago, and that was one of the things I didn't go with my family so it was something I'd never seen before. I really liked how they set it up in like different rooms that symbolized different parts of Roosevelt's life (with the water and everything), for example the one that represented when he died had no waterfall just still water... I thought it was interesting, the quotes added a lot to it also, as did the part about Eleanor Roosevelt. I also liked how the statues were made to be touched and you didnt have to just look at them- that was a nice change.

My favorite part of the D.C. trip was probably the National Air and Space Museum. It was really cool to see all of the airplanes and space ships that they had hanging from the ceiling. It gave me an idea of how large and complicated those machines really are. I also learned some more information about the brothers I am doing for my final research paper in Social Studies, the Wright Brothers. But the best part of the National Air and Space Museum for me was probably the flight simulator. It was really fun and showed what it was like to be a pilot or a gunner in an airplane that was in a battle. And of course, getting flipped around a ton of times was very fun.

My favorite part of the trip mas probably seeing the memorials. It was interesting to see how historical people influenced the country. Also, the newseum was interesting. I got to see how life back 50+ years ago relates to today. I saw in detail primary sources on topics that we learned in history.Although we wern't there for long, I did enjoy the Air and Space museum. I got to see the Wright Flyer, (my project in history is on the Wright brothers) which was amazing. I would have liked to see more of the government side of D.C., but otherwise, I enjoyed the trip.

I thought that the trip to Washington D.C. was really cool. My favorite museum was the Newseum. When we first arrived, we went into the 4D movie. The movie was about the many dangerous aspects of reporting. Whenever there was a gust of wind, you felt a gust of wind. The other part I liked about the Newseum was how you saw all the different kinds of newspapers from around the world (most of them were in different languages). I also liked the section that showed all the old newspapers that were printed on important/memerable dates such as when the Titanic sank. Overall, I liked how the museum had many different sections that we got to see and none of them were alike. My favorite monument was the Lincoln Memorial. I thought it was cool that around the outside of the building, it had all the states names and that it had some of Lincoln's famous speeches engraved on the inside. I thought the fact that it was big, open and made out of marble made it even more extrodonary. Overall, I enjoyed the entire trip, but these two places were my favorite.

3. Like many of those who have already posted, my favorite part of the trip to Washington D.C. was visiting the Newseum. We first saw a 4-D movie, which was a fun way of showing how important news media is; in the present and past. It gave examples of how the news can tell people what is happening in the world they live in that they wouldn’t usually know without it. The museum had an enormous supply of newspapers from past major and minor events from America and all over the world. These exemplified the first amendment (freedom of the press) well. On display, they had several newspaper pages in heavy cases that you could pull out and read (if you could read it—the fonts in the older newspapers were rather small). There was also a few touch screens scattered around the area where you can look up newspapers articles about basically any event you can think of (this also let us enlarge the newspaper so that we could actually read it) . It gave us a sense of the history in America and the reactions people had at that time.

The Newseum was very interactive. There were other touch screens where you could play games to learn about important people dealing with the news media in the past. There were also games where you pretend you were a journalist and in order to win, you had to make sure that all the information you put in the newspaper were relatively objective. The Newseum helped me see how important it is that newspapers should only tell the facts and let people make their own opinions based off of them. (Jean D.)

On the DC trip,my favortie part was probably the Newseum! I had gone there before but never went to the 4-D movie or went on the "news". In the movie, i though it was cool when on the screen, the woman threw a rat and then we felt it beneath our feet. It scared me half to death and i would not put me feet on the floor after that. I also did a news report with Marisa A. and got to send and email to my parents from the Newseum. Most everything on the trip was fun, though. i also enjoyed our tour guied FLO! she was great and i learned alot from her.

My favorite part of the trip was the holocaust museum. My favorite part in the museum was Daniel's Story, remembering the children from the holocaust. i really liked how you walked through his life basically and could see how he lived. It wasn't like a boring museum with a lot of words that are too overwhelming to read, all it had was journal entries you could read, and just by looking at the surroundings helped you to learn what the holocaust was like for Daniel. I also really like the Newseum, because i didnt really know that journalism was so important to the world. I liked all of the visual things like all the newspaper headlines from 9/11 and the part of the building, and the whole floor of computers. It was actually very interesting and none of the other museums were quite like that. I went to DC a few years ago with my family, but i didnt go to most of the places that we went. This was really a treat for our grade and i got to see a lot of famous things, and learn about their significance.

After this trip to me being an American isnt about the technology or the money but about our history and how many people have died and or fought for this country and based on that the country is worth fighting for. My favorite part about the trip was the FDR memorial because the statues and exsibits had alot of meaning and told you alot about his life. which connects back to social studies class when we learned about FDR and his presidancy.

Last there was was the parts of the Berlin wall that was across from the elavator was amazing just reading the messages were amazing. I also liked the holacaust museum, even though it was very depressing it really touched me and showed me the next level of what the Nazi's did. Instead of reading and hearing about what they did you saw what they did with these miny movies inside these coffin like objects so that little kids and other had didn't have to see the movies. There were definetly more monuments and museums that I learned lots from.

The photos were often depressing, showing horrifc moments caught on camera. It was extreamly interesting because these photos won prizes, and therefore displayed amazing photgraphy. The newseum had many other exhibits that were interesting and fun but the Pultizer Prize photos exhibit stood out to me the most. The part of the Washington D.C. trip that was my favorite was seeing all of our governments buildings. I enjoyed this because I found it interesting to see the exact places, where centuries ago our government was formed. By seeing these it was a chance to see the birtplace of our nation, up close, and in real life. This really provided me with a greater, and deeper understanding on how important and great the United States of America Really are.

Washington DC was a good trip. My favorite thing about the trip was doing the flight simulator in the Air and Space Musuem. Even though the simulator cost money, I thought it was completely worth the cost. Going upside down and doing flips inside the simulator made you feel like you were inside a real jet. Even though some kids got afraid and hit the emergency stop botton. The ride was still amazing. This was by far my favoriate part in any museum and on the whole trip.

Washington D.C. was soooooooo much fun!!!!!!! we went to soooo many attractions, but my favorite was Ford Theatre. It wasn't as sad as someof teh other places we went. This was teh place where President Lincoln was shot. we learned about his last day and how he and his wife and a couple of friends were goinmg to see Our American Cousins. The presentor also gave information about the killer John Booth who was and actor and pretty much teh Brad Pitt of his day. He wanted to became famous and wanted Lincoln dead soo he wouldn't take over the world. Its sad that Lincoln could have lived longer, but Booth did it for teh goodof the country...... I guess. i will miss my tour guide Fran. Washington D.C was fun and i hope to go again sooon:)

My favorite part of the Washington trip was going to see the Lincon Memorial. Almost everyone has seen pictures of it, but you never really get a feel for how big the stature of Lincon is until you can walk in to the memorial. On the two walls that are on either side of Lincon, they also have some of the famous speeches he wrote, for example the Gettysburg Address. I also thought that the view of the Washington Monument from the stairs of the Memorial was really cool. You are able to see down the entire reflecting pool and out onto the monument just from the Lincon Memorial.

My favorite part about the trip to Washington D.C. was the Newsuem. The 4-D movie was the best part but i also like the exhibits on 9/11 and Barack Obama. The 9/11 exhibit was really cool because there was a actually a part of the twin tower's in the muesuem. All over the exhibit there were news articles about 9/11. There were films playing about families and peoples experiences towards 9/11. The timeline about what happened on September 11 was also very cool. The Newsuem was my favorite and also most interesting part of the trip to Washington D.C.

Third Question: My favorite part of the D.C trip was the Holocaust Museum. The architect designed the interior really made you feel like you were inside a concentration camp. The exhibit Daniel's Story was especially realistic because it allowed you o tour throughout his life and read his journal entries that expressed how it changed at the Hitler influenced more people. I was able to see a realistic example of what it was like during that time era and see how wrong and disturbing it truly was.
I also enjoyed the 911 exhibit. he video that was being played showed how brave the firefighters, medical workers, civilians, and even news reporters were. The antenna that was taken off the top of one of the twin towers was displayed in its crushed form at the museum which made the exhibit feel realistic. All of the different newspapers hanging were also an interesting display in this exhibit and the other monuments were amazing and eye catching.

This class trip was so fun! There are many moments I could declare my favorite, because there was a variety of memorable vinyettes. From the simulator at The Air and Space Museum, in which I laughed so hard I almost cried, to the thrilling 4D movie at the Newseum, I thouroughly enjoyed this trip. There is one part of the Newseum that really stuck with me. This was the pulitzer prize photos. The real life images captured emotion and turmoil, I found them expodentially moving to the degree that I almost got left behind due to my immersion in the milieu. I love DC!

2) One thing I saw that connected to what we have learning in social studies was reform. We discussed about reform in the United States during the Industrial Revolution and all the types of reform. The type we saw was protesting and we saw this outside the White House.

My favorite part of the trip was the Newseum. It was very cool and i liked all the front pages of the newspapers after 9/11. also i realized how BIG the world trade centers really were, i thought that the antenna was big but that was only the very tip of the top of the whole antenna. but overall i liked everything and our tour guide, Fran, was great even though she did walk really fast.

During the D.C. trip, I think I had two main things that I remember most vividly. Those two things are: the Newseum, and the war memorials. I enjoyed the Newseum for a number of reasons, including the incredible amount of information contained in it, and also the layout. It was one of the places we went during the trip that you didn't have to reflect very much on other than thinking about what you know about recorded events. Also, the war memorials were one of my favorite parts because those are most memorable to me. This is because the memorials were very sober and philosophical, and I will remember them specifically for their symbolism, and how it is presented. Such as during the changing of the guard at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. Everything was respectful and symbolic and showed the meaningfulness of the sacrifices of the soldiers. These two places are some of the things I find most memorable about my trip to Washington.

I found that the trip to Washington D.C. was decent and exciting. My favorite part was the Newseum because it was a new muesum but also full of interesting objects and facts such as parts of the Berlin wall. Also the Newseum had a cool 4-D theater that showed how the press changed the world. Lastly they had cool exibits such as a new reporter exibit, which you could have done a real newscast like the pros which was decent.

The trip to Washington DC was very fun and informative. I learned lots of new things. One of my favorite parts was the trip to Mt. Vernon. I found it very interesting to be in the house that George Washington (probably the greatest leader in American history) lived in. The trip also really connected to my social studies class because we learned all about the Revolutionary War. Another thing that I thought was fun was the flight simulator in the air and space museum. I thought it was interesting to experience what pilots experience every day.

First one, the most fun part of the trip for me was probably the National Air and Space Museum. It was really cool to see all the old air crafts, and the WW II planes. Also, the part about the first space shuttles were really interesting. My favorite part of the museum was the flight simulator. It was really cool with the big screen and how the simulator would actually spin all the way around, and you would somehow be flying upside down. Not only did I enjoy the mesuem but i also enjoyed being with my friends, and the bus rides. Overall, D.C. was a great experience.

(2) I connected many things from History class very well to the things I saw in the Newseum. Almost everyone who has posted on this blog has said how the 4-D theater was lots of fun, but even if it weren't in 4-D it would've still been a great film. One of the examples of investigative journalism in the film, was of this woman going to an insane asilumn. There, they were given awful services and care from food, to rooms, alot worse than a jail or prison. The narrator said a quote from her first column written in the newspaper she waas writing for, "After two weeks there, anybody could become insane". She then had many fundraisers and she saved up to 1 million dollars to give to the insane asilumn. I don't remember their name, I just remember a woman leader, during the Manifest Destiny, save money to improve insane asilumns. The Newsuem put a major affect on how I think about investigative journalism and any other sort of newspaper editing.

The thing i really liked about the DC trip, was going to the air and space museum , and going to flight stimulator, it was a little scary but it was really fun. I also liked going to the newseum , which was lot of fun to see all the different pictures people taken of good and bad events. I also liked seeing the 3-d or 4-d movie it was really interesting and i really liked the rat part and having the seats moving with different parts of the scenes

My favorite part of the trip to Washington dc was the Newseum because one- I really liked the 4D show, it was informative and entertaining at the same time, and
two- I realized by looking at all the news articles how much our country has changed, and all that it's been through since the 1400's. There were some events that were really interesting, and some that i had never even heard of before. It gave people a perspective on how far we've come in American society.
Overall the whole trip was really fun.

My favorite part about Washington DC was the Newseum because of all the interesting exhibits that were there. The Berlin wall piece was fascinating and the graffiti on it was cool too. The crushed part of the World Trade Center was really informative because you could see how damaging 9/11 was. I also enjoyed the wall with all of the headlines covering 9/11. The "4-D" theater was also fun but not so much the frightening rat incedent. From prior experiences, 3-D movies were not really 3-D but the one at the Newseum really was. The movie was also very informational. Overall the Newseum was the most interactive and educational which made it my favorite experience during the Washington DC trip.

One aspect of the Washington D.C. trip, I really thought was interesting was the night tour of the memorials. The Vietnam memorial, is a large 'V' shaped wall at the edge of a hill. On the wall, are the names of the soldiers who died in the Vietnam War. Flowers, letters and even medals are scattered around the wall, left by those grieving for a love one who died in the war. I found this memorial, very touching, considering that when it was built, the designers didn't even believe anyone would visit it. Now the Vietnam Memorial is one of the most popular memorials in D.C.
The next memorial we saw was the Lincoln Memorial. I was especially looking forward to this memorial and wasn't disappointed. The memorial has a huge statue of Lincoln sitting in a chair, looking thoughtful. The statue sits in a building that is lined with columns and engravings of all the states' names. The memorial has a great view of the Washington Memorial and is a beautiful testament to one of our nation's greatest leaders.
Next, we saw the Korean War Memorial. This memorial is much different than all the others. It has numerous statues of soldiers who are posed as if they were in combat. The statues are scattered around a triangular stretch of rocks and grass. This is surrounded by a wall much like the one in the Vietnam Memorial, only it has actual faces and scenes engraved in it.
The final memorial we visited was the World War II memorial. This memorial is gorgeous at night. A pool of water, with several fountains, is surrounded by columns, each engraved with the name of a state. At each end of the pool in the middle of the columns are two large arches, with ATLANTIC and PACIFIC engraved on them. This memorial was also very moving because it reminds us of one of the worst wars this country has ever been in. With the lights and several fountains, this memorial is my favorite. The night tour of the memorials was my favorite part of this trip because these memorials honor the brave citizens who lost their lives fighting for our country.

The best part about going to Washington D.C. was the Air and Space Museum. I liked this one the most because we were able to inter-act with what they were trying to teach us instead of standig and listening. Also by being able to go on the simulators it gave us the feeling that it gives the actual pilots.

My favorite part of the Washington D.C. trip was the Newseum. I like how it was very modern and also held a lot of fun and interesting things to do. The Newsuem is a very new museum, and the architecture was fascinating. I think that the 4-D movie about how news evolved into something more than just newspaper articles was really cool. Plus it was a fun movie and enjoyed watching, and feeling the special effects. Another interesting, but gloomy part of the Newseum was the Pulitzer Prize Room. I thought that all of the photos were extremely well shot, and all the quotes from the photographers were very sad. Even though there were probably more terrible pictures than happy ones, there were a good sum of day-brightening photos. Right as you walked in there was a cheerful picture of a two siblings riding a horse with ear-to-ear smiles on their faces. Overall the whole trip was exciting and fill with happiness, but the Newsuem was defiantly on the top of my list, and it looks like the favorites of a lot of other peoples' too.

My favorite part of the trip was probably the Newseum. I liked this because it was really interesting, I liked being able to walk on the roof and see the view from PA avenue, and the exhibits were fun. There was a lot of hands on stuff, and all the exhibits seemed to have the ability to really reach out and say something to you, especially the 9/11 one. I also really liked the 4-D move at the beginning.

Third Question: I really liked seeing all the monuments and museums, but my favorite museum was the Holocaust museum on the last day. I liked this museum because I already knew some things about the Holocaust, but the museum taught me much more. The museum also showed me that people had to live through that and the ones that did were very strong and had amazing courage. I have a lot of respect for the people who stayed strong during the holocaust.

My favorite part of the trip was getting to see the main exhibit in the Holocaust Museum. It was amazing in a sickening way that Hitler could get away with what he was doing to the non-Aryans. In the museum there were a lot of plastic, black, boards that had the information about the Holocaust on them. They explained things like what Hitler's final plan was, or how people were discriminated against. Then there were all of the artifacts. In the middle of the exhibit, there was a replica of a train car that was used to transport people to the concentration camps. There was also tools that Nazis used to determine whether you were Aryan or not, like a metal box that had eye colors on it which were compared to yours. Overall, it was a very powerful museum.

THIRD, Washington D.C was a great experience. I have been there before but there were a lot of cool things that I had never seen. One of my favorite things that we did that I liked was the newseum. It Was very interesting. It was a museum about the press. There was facts and papers about Lincoln'a assasination by John Wilkes Booth. On the top of the museum, there was a very cool veiw of the monuments and it was very exciting to see. On the trip, I also like the boat ride that we had with one other town. It was cool to meet new kids. It was also a fun time to hang out with kids from D.S because we did not have to much time of that. D.C was a great experience.

I really liked the newseum. The 4D movie was super cool and really showed how the news has impacted the history around the world. The many exhibits and and movies it had were very intresting. The 9/11 video was really cool but sad. Lastly, I really liked how you could play those games to take pictures to learn how to be a photographer in the news.

My favorite part of the Washington D.C. trip was when we went to the Newsuem. I thought this museam was very interesting and i learned alot about all types of history. I though the 4-d movie was very cool and i enjoyed it alot. One of the most interesting things i saw at the Newseaum was the newspaper the day after we declared independance form England. I thought it was very cool to read what some of our founding fathers probably read when we decided to declare independance. I also thought it was cool how they had part of the Berlin Wall in the actual building. It was a very interesting Museam that i wish we could have had more time to look around in.

My favorite part of the D.C. trip was the FDR memorial. It had so many stages of FDR's life and showed them well with all the statues. It was very large and each part we traveled through was very interesting. There were waterfalls, walls with quotes, statues, and large blocks piled on each other. It was a very artsy experience and a great photo-taking site. There was one wall with protruding objects like faces and hands and that was my favorite. The FDR memorial was very impressive.

3rd Question- My favorite part of the DC trip was the Newseum and the Holocaust Museum. It was really interesting to be at a museum that wasn't about history or science. I loved the movie there and all the interactive stuff. The Holocaust Museum was really great, too, because I got to see what it really was like for them, when going through Daniel's Story. We read the book last year, but it was nice to see it visually. And the thing on propaganda was interesting, too. Plus, i liked the booklet on the real person. I hope that the 8th graders next year will have as much fun as we did.-Chandler

After going to Washington D.C. my eyes have really been opened. I have seen so many people who have sacrificed everything they have to help. Before going to Washington D.C. I did not realize how many people die in war, but at Arlington National Cemetery there were so many people there it was really surprising. Now when I think about the question: What does it mean to be an American citizen, I think about all of the people that have died at war and have sacrificed so much.
To me being an American citizen means helping not being selfish sacrificing something. While on the trip I saw so many examples of people who sacrificed something to help others. Two examples are Arlington National Cemetery, Vietnam memorial. The Arlington National Cemetery changes how I think of myself as an American Citizen because all of those people put themselves in a risky position to fight for what they believed is right. Even though I know that right now I can not go out to war I can still help my community by doing community service. The Vietnam memorial also helps shape how I think of myself as an American Citizen because those names on the wall are from ONE war. When I think of an American Citizen I think of someone form the army someone who has done something amazing for the country and everyone on that wall and everyone buried in Arlington national Cemetery did do something amazing.
